I was searching for God my entire life.
The funny thing is,
I didn’t even realize it.
MY NAME IS
BOB WHEATLEY
I’m a child of God in Nashville, Tennessee. As an entrepreneur, podcast host, and former professional athlete, I’ve been blessed to live a multi-faceted life. As a professional baseball player, I traveled the nation and performed in stadiums of over 15,000 people. As an author, speaker, and podcast host, I’ve worked with thought-leaders, bestselling authors, and world-class musicians, including people like Rory Vaden, Rachel Cruze, Fred Stoeker, and Jason Gray. My podcast (That Singles’ Show) is hosted by KCBI Christian Radio in Dallas, and my work has been featured on various other nationally syndicated radio outlets like WAY-FM and THE FISH. I have an inborn desire for helping people discover their passion for God, and that was the reason I wrote my first book, Our Hearts’ Desire.
Before I wrote Our Hearts’ Desire, I played minor league baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays and the St. Louis Cardinals. I played in dozens of states and multiple countries throughout my career, and I chased what many would call a childhood dream. But I can honestly say that God wasn’t my focus. At that point in my life, the crowds seemed more powerful and the relationships more tangible. I could feel the impact those things had on me, but I couldn’t say the same about God.
And then, they vanished.
In almost immediate fashion, the entire future I planned was taken away from me. Within just a matter of months, I lost the baseball career I fought for, the Big-League dream I chased, and yes, even the girl I loved. I had officially reached an all-time low, and it felt like my story was over.
BUT THEN,
SOMETHING CHANGED.
While I still couldn’t seem to “hear” God’s voice, I began noticing something peculiar… I was repeatedly captured by stories.
It didn’t matter if it was a book, a movie, or even a Broadway show, it was stories that engaged my heart.
What I soon realized was that my love for stories was touching something deeper—it was fueled by my longing for God. These things weren’t just stories, they were more like God’s whispers, and He was using them to draw me close.
With this new revelation, it finally made sense why my favorites were so similar—I wanted to live the narrative on the page or the screen!
The story I wanted to live was simple, and I’m sure you will recognize it well…
The hero, the villain, the love interest to be saved. Paradise is lost, paradise is restored. The righteous flourish, the wicked perish… You get the idea. This story is the deepest desire of the human heart, so we tell it again and again.
It is also the story of the Bible.
I wrote Our Hearts’ Desire with one goal in mind—I want to help you fall in love with God. I want you to experience the love, joy, and passion you seek, and you will find them by discovering the story.
