Can you feel it? Fall is in the air! The leaves are changing color, the air is crisp, and the holiday rush is right around the corner. Yes, it’s that time of year again.
This is typically the portion of our calendar when the world starts to wind down, but my encouragement for you today is something different—my encouragement is for you to press on.
Here are three things you need to finish well in 2025.
1. You Need a Vision
There’s a reason Scripture talks so much about vision. “Without vision, the people perish,” Proverbs tells us (29:18). Vision gives our days direction. It gives our work meaning. Without it, we might keep busy, but we’ll never be fruitful as we could be.
When Jesus invited His followers to join Him, He made it clear that we must consider the investment before beginning a project. “Who among you,” He asked, “would begin to build a tower without first counting the cost?” (Luke 14:28, my paraphrase)
No one starts something meaningful without knowing what they’re building.
So then, my question is: What did you set out to do this year? What was your vision on 1/1/25?
Maybe it was a dream for your business, a goal for your health, or a breakthrough for your family. Maybe it was something God called you into. Whatever that vision was, it’s time to bring it back into focus.
The good news is, you still have sixty days left. Sixty days to finish what you started. Sixty days to realign your heart with the finish line. Remember the vision!
2. You Need Discipline
Vision gives you a direction to go, but discipline keeps your feet moving forward.
Discipline doesn’t sound glamorous, but it’s one of the purest forms of worship. It’s saying “yes” to God’s call and “no” to mere comforts. It’s denying what’s easy for what’s eternal.
We live in a culture that tells us to rest before we’ve run, to consume before we’ve created, and to treat ourselves to pleasure before we’ve done any work. But finishing well requires something deeper. It requires grit. It requires faith that what you started still matters.
You might have to trade the late-night Netflix for an early morning workout.
You might have to trade comfort for consistency.
You might have to say, “Not today, distractions. I’m finishing strong in 2025.”
Because the truth is—discipline isn’t about striving; it’s about stewardship. It’s about doing difficult things, and honoring the vision that God has given you.
3. You Need a Team
Even in “solo” endeavors, there’s always a team. Golfers have caddies. Leaders have mentors. Runners have fans on the side of the road. You and I are no different.
Maybe your team looks small right now—a spouse, a friend, or even that accountability partner with the 4 a.m. texts. Maybe it’s someone from church who keeps you grounded, or maybe it’s the person who simply reminds you why you started in the first place.
The body of Christ was designed this way—each part depending on the other. None of us were given every gift in the arsenal, but together, we can build what we could never build alone.
Finishing Well in 2025
As we close out this year, remember this: finishing well isn’t about checking every box. You might not have met every goal this year. You might not have crushed every milestone. That’s okay.
But don’t rush into 2026 just yet!
There’s still something sacred to be lived right here, in the present. Because when the year closes, and we look back on all that God has done through us, we’ll know we didn’t just cross a finish line—we were faithful to the One who called us there.
It’s time to lock in. Let’s finish this year well.
Blessings,
